History

For 90 years with a passion for engines and aviation


  • 30sCorrado Negri and Italo Balbo’s transoceanic flight

    CMD/FNM history dates from 30s when Corrado Negri, an eminent member of Italian Air Force, took part in the transoceanic flight of Italo Balbo, an italian politician involved in promoting Italian aviation in the world.
  • 1971Launching Fratelli Negri Macchine Diesel Sud

    The company is founded in 1971 by Negri family under “Fratelli Negri Macchine Diesel Sud” name.
    The first CMD business activity is focused on earth-moving machinery’ inspections; then, in the 70s, company widens its business dealing with diesel engines installations on used cars.
    At the end of decade, CMD starts and cooperate with FIAT (now FCA), which still represents a meaningful part of the company’s business.
  • 1980CMD introduces the supercharged diesel engine GD 178 AT 1.3

    In 1980 CMD introduces at the International Motor Show in Turin the supercharged diesel engine GD 178 AT 1.3, all designed and built by FNM. This engine’s model had been obtaining a considerable success over the years.
  • 1991In 1991 CMD is officially set up and buys FNM business.

  • 90sCMD opens its first plant in Atella, Basilicata region.

    In the 90s CMD opens its first plant in Atella, expending the activity by producing and selling diesel inboard marine engines and offering advanced machining services.
  • Anni 2000CMD opens 2 new plants: Atella 2 and Morra De Sanctis (AV)

    Company’s growth is supported by the opening of two new production plants, Atella 2 (2004) and Morra de Sanctis (2005), and implementing a new range of JTD marine engines, highly competitive.
    The business diversification process given by the production of two Aircraft engines for GA and light Aircrafts (VLA), as well as the development of a Micro-CHP systems powered by wooden biomasses, allowed CMD to approach the biggest players on the market.
  • On January 2017CMD becomes part of the Loncin Group (CHINA)

    On January 2017, CMD becomes part of the Loncin Group (CHINA), further enlarging company’s business opportunities in new leading-edge technology solutions.

Research & Development

Our R&D team is composed of engineers with multidisciplinary skills, from electronics, mechanics to high precision components. It deals with services covering each single phase of engineering design process related to engine’s development.

The right balance between experience, research and creativity leads to hi-tech, dynamic and innovative solutions, meeting customers’ requirements. This provides a considerable advantage in terms of competitiveness.

Thanks to several research projects launched over the years, CMD cooperates with universities and private research centres, such as University Federico II of Naples, CNR, CIRA (Italian Aerospace Research Centre), University of Salento and University of Basilicata.
