The "environment" theme and the war against global warming are also influencing the nautical sector and traditional modes of navigation: the increase in demand for hybrid boats is tangible proof of this.
In Italy, hybrid navigation is increasingly widespread; Venice, the city suspended over the water and the only one of its kind in the world, has immediately considered the possibility of hybridizing its transport system, taking into account the delicate ecosystems that characterize the aquatic environments on which the entire city extends.
Luigi Brugnaro, mayor of the famous city, had the honour of being the first to test the prototype of a hybrid boat designed for urban transport - a taxi - in view of a possible "change of route" towards a new way of understanding transport, both public and private, and to give the city of Venice a future sensitive to environmental protection.
Also the Police Forces have found in hybrid navigation a valid answer for their operational needs: September 2020, despite the difficult COVID-19 period, was a very important month as the new hybrid patrol boats of the Carabinieri and the first hybrid patrol boat of the Guardia di Finanza were presented in Venice.
On 9 September, in the Venice Arsenal in the presence of the mayor of the lagoon city, Luigi Brugnaro, the new Carabinieri boats for transport and emergency response requirements were delivered in the evocative setting of the Arsenal.
They are two Class 100 and a hybrid Class 300; the latter, conceived for both endothermic and electric navigation thanks to the coupling of Vio Nautica's Volvo Penta system, Ing. Ruggero Vio S.r.l. of Marghera (VE) with the Blue Hybrid System, entirely conceived and designed by CMD and distributed exclusively by Vio, allows silent navigation in protected areas with zero emissions.
A few days later, on 24 September, the first hybrid propulsion patrol boat in Italy was delivered to the Venice Naval Station on the island of Giudecca, in the presence of General Commander of the Guardia di Finanza, Gen. C.A. Giuseppe Zafarana.
The vessel has been designed for endothermic and electric navigation thanks to the coupling of the 42HPE engine with the Blue Hybrid System, both CMD brand.
It will be possible to view the patrol boat at the next Genoa Boat Show (1 - 6 October) at the Guardia di Finanza booth.
We are proud and determined, also thanks to the support of important companies in the sector, to continue to pursue one of our most important objectives: to promote the development of sustainable mobility.
